The Sun in Leo part three, The Sun

“For who in this most beautiful of temples would put this lamp in any other or better place than the one from which it can illuminate everything at the same time? Aptly indeed is be named by some the lantern of the universe, by others the mind, by others the ruler. Trismegistus called him the visible God, watcher over all things. This indeed the Sun as if seated on a royal throne governs his household of Stars as they circle around.”

                                                        Revolution of the Heavenly Spheres

Last week, we dove into the energetic power of Leo by first understanding its fixed nature, and its fire nature. Today, we embark on its ruler, the Sun.

The Sun is the nucleus of our universe. He is the all-knowing atman, the spiritual center, the giver of life and vitality.  He is the central organizing principle of organic existence. His powerful, expansive, life-giving, light-generating, love-bearing energy is the mainstay of life and the power of manifestation in action. Life would be impossible without it. The sun provides the energy which allows everything to prosper and grow to its full potential.

He is love, light, vitality, and life itself, ever calling forms into existence.

Since the beginning of recorded time, the sun has symbolized the personification of God- he represents the primal fount of existence, the divine spark, the central spiritual figure signifying spiritual potency and creative power. The Sun-Gods were all powerful, central deities in their pantheon, the giver of life.

“This divine and wholly beautiful universe, from the highest vault of heaven to the lowest limit of the earth, is held together by continuous providence of the god, has existed from eternity, un-generated, is imperishable for all time to come, and is guarded immediately by nothing else that the fifth substance whose culmination is the beams of the Sun”

His energy changes with the seasons and those cycles dictate the eternal cycle of birth-death-regeneration and rebirth.

According to Remi Namjoshi, in Before your Future, We are each on a hero’s journey to uncover the physical, astral, and causal layers. (Conscious, unconscious, subconscious)

The physical layer is the body and consciousness; built by the food we eat, air we breathe and water we drink and is sustained by the physical senses. This layer is the easiest to influence, our biological body is a function of what we eat and drink, how well we sleep and exercise.

The Astral Layer includes the mind and its memories, built upon impressions, sights, sounds and all the ideas we digest. This is the unconscious layer; modified by altering the sensual impressions and ideas we consume.

The Causal Layer is the accumulated karma subconsciously reflected through deeply ingrained patterns of behavior or samskara in Vedic texts. This is the Layer of the Soul; influenced by the natal chart and current planetary positions.

The Final layer is the true self or atman. The original essence; transcending and including the others. This layer could be considered virginal; forever untouched and pure.  It represents the unlimited potential of the hero in each of us.

Each layer interacts with and is affected by the others.

In the Vedic Astrology, the universe starts true self (atman) which is determined by the Sun’s position in the natal chart.

The sun can show us the type of energy which will allow us to stay focused and sustains us to stay the course. He challenges us, tests our resolve and urges us to take positions of power and responsibility. He asks if we have the intestinal fortitude to withstand the pressure or break under its weight. He is associated with fiery nature and represents courage, valor, commanding presence, boldness and fortitude. He provides intelligence, intuition, discernment to take daring, directed action to fulfill our urges, becoming agents of his solar influence.

In Ayurveda, the Sun is associated with fire or pitta – a strong pitta is essential to the fortitude and courage required to seek out our purpose and unique sense expression. The sun shows us our Dharma – the correct path to prosper and actualize. It illuminates the grand parts of ourselves. The part destined for greatness.

His psychology is conscientious, prideful, courageous, ambitious, magnanimous and noble. He represents self-esteem, individuality, basic urges, internal motivation and libido. He drives our dopamine seeking behavior. He is the energy of the psyche.

In the human body, the sun has chief control of the organs which express man’s higher nature as creator. He represents the heart, upper back, spleen and vital etheric fluid (Cerebrospinal fluid and bone marrow.) He is the nucleus of life and our human cells. He represents the cerebrum and part of the brain stem, ruling the circulatory system and vision. He is also associated with vitamins A & D. His rays feed the nerves of the brain.

Deep inside the brain, lie a pair of thalami, (together called thalamus) ovoid shaped organs that form the lateral walls of the third ventricle. This part of the brain translates neural impulses from our sensory, gustatory and somatosensory systems to the cerebral cortex and has a significant role in our motor activity, memory, emotions and arousal. On either side of the thalamus are two glands: the pineal and pituitary glands. Together, these glands secrete the hormones that influence our circadian rhythms, digestion and metabolism. These hormones regulate our energy, stress-response and maintain homeostasis of the biological organism. These hormones reach the solar plexus via the pneumo-gastric (also known as the vagus nerve); one of the 12 cranial nerves controlling our sensory motor system. It is also responsible for various internal functions including digestion, heart rate, breathing, cardiovascular activity and biological reflexes such as coughing, sneezing, vomiting and fainting.  Additionally, this nerve provides a vital link between the gut and brain, sometimes referred to the second brain; becoming the link to access our gut instincts.

“The sun sign is the primary creative tool for the expression of one’s core identity. It is the most encompassing astrological energy through which and individual can accomplish life goals and is the most sustaining force in one’s creation of self as a whole entity”

Bernie Ashman

The sun also represents the area in life where you need self-expression and creativity. The house of your sun can indicate where you are touched by the hand of God. Such a soul on earth engenders all the qualities applied to the Sun God. Hermetically, he signifies the refining, sublimating, and heightening spiritual power rising in the body. He represents the coiled serpent of kundalini energy rising, to bring spirit forth.

It is the Sun’s energy which contains our basic sense of purpose and wellbeing. He represents our creative urges and our unique creative expression of those urges. If not transformed, these instincts can register as existential crises, as we desperately seek authenticity and meaning. The soul moves through passion and desire. Before your Future

In the horoscope, the sun enlightens the personality; its aspects can illuminate barriers to our inner sense of strength, identity, vitality, and independence.  Influences from the first 7 years of life will have a profound influence on our self-esteem, confidence, vitality, and relationships. These challenges are part of our dharma and create the blueprint of obstacles we must traverse in becoming our most authentic selves. The sun is exalted in all three fire signs, which thrive on goal-directed action. It is home in Leo and most joyous in the 9th House, the house of religion, spirituality, philosophy, and travel. Creative expression is the journey of the sun, this is the purpose of our soul. Completing our Dharma, following our life’s path, responding to creative impulses, finding creative ways to express our bliss, finding peace and harmony through authenticity and love, this is the keynote of the Hero’s Journey.

When the sun is home in Leo, the fifth house, your focus shifts to personal needs and interests, but the best use of this energy is to explore and discover a creative outlet for your energy. Be it birthing a child, idea or project, it will be something which is an extension of yourself.

The Sun in Leo part one Fixed signs

This month, the sun is in Leo until the 22nd when it moves into Virgo. During my personal wellness journey, I have found that by following the astrology each month, I am provided with an opportunity to check-in with various areas in my life to be sure my daily routines and habits are aligned with my long-term goals. This intentional check-in ensures that my routines keep me on track rather than detract me from where I am going.      Leo is a fixed fire sign ruled by the Sun in the 5th House For the next few days, we are going to take some time to breakdown all these terms down, so by the time the sun moves into Virgo, we will be well acquainted with Leo and ready to move with the sun. Since I was young, I intuitively knew the horoscope held some magical secrets. I found it entertaining to read my monthly sun-sign horoscope and see if the interpretation resembled anything applicable in my life. My analytical side however prevented me from actually putting any emphasis or v...

The Book of Sophia

The book of Sophia is first and foremost a place for me to organize my thoughts and research for my book, to be entitled: The Book of Sophia. This idea has been marinating for at least the last decade and I finally find myself putting pen to paper, or fingers to keys as it were, to flush out some of the ideas and get the chapters organized while hopefully get some constructive feedback along the way. The book of Sophia is intended as it sounds to be a Book of wisdom, a modern grimoire of sorts, a collection of both ancient esoteric wisdom and modern scientific thought. It combines concepts of numerology, astrology and tarot with modern psychological concepts like Attachment theory, Trauma work and concepts from energy practices, both traditional and modern. It uses archetypes, myths and fairytales to increase our understanding of the concepts.  It is intended to appeal to both right-brained artistic and abstract types as well as the linear thinking, left brained, scientific minds. ...
