This month, the sun is in Leo until the 22nd when it moves into Virgo. During my personal wellness journey, I have found that by following the astrology each month, I am provided with an opportunity to check-in with various areas in my life to be sure my daily routines and habits are aligned with my long-term goals. This intentional check-in ensures that my routines keep me on track rather than detract me from where I am going.
Leo is a fixed fire sign ruled by the Sun in the 5th House
For the next few days, we are going to take some time to breakdown all these terms down, so by the time the sun moves into Virgo, we will be well acquainted with Leo and ready to move with the sun.
Since I was young, I intuitively knew the horoscope held some magical secrets. I found it entertaining to read my monthly sun-sign horoscope and see if the interpretation resembled anything applicable in my life. My analytical side however prevented me from actually putting any emphasis or validity into the practice, but I have always been intrigued, and I have always known there was something more to it than meets the eye.
By the time I entered my late forties the pendulum was swinging the other direction and now, in my fifties, I am fully aligning and planning my life around astrological cycles. I have come to believe the secret of all societies and religions, when taken symbolically, leads us to a greater understanding of astrological cycles. This blog is my attempt at fleshing out the tools and research into a guide, a map for others to use and build upon on their own journey towards wellness, fulfillment and enlightenment.
This series of posts on Leo is not about your personal sun-sign, rather how the current energies on earth are influencing overall patterns. Aligning ourselves to these energies can bring about dramatic changes in our lives as we go through a process of continual self-improvement, each month doing the work that will align us with these cycles of energy. However, once we are done looking thoroughly at the energies of Leo, the ideas can be applied even more thoroughly in your own life, using your natal and transit charts.
This work is my own synthesis of both ancient and modern texts on astrology and esoteric ideas. When I first began my deep interest in astrology, I was frustrated by all the books that provided only lists of correspondences without any further explanation. So, true to my nature, I dug in and researched it all for myself. This series seeks to transcend those lists of correspondences and to update the references, bringing as much together in one place as I possibly can. So, without further ado, lets dig into Leo and see what the energies of this month are all about.
Leo is a fixed fire sign ruled by the Sun in the fifth house.
The sun is at home in Leo in the fifth house, so our exploration of these energies is the perfect place to begin.
Let's start with that term fixed and see what that is all about.
Fixed signs occur in the middle of a season. Middle processes according to Humanistic Astrologer, Michael R. Meyer, are a "point of repolarization from the complexification and differentiation of structural patterns to the creative release of their contents ... The middle is where the involuntary process of differentiation and organic growth reaches its apex, and the evolutionary process of consciousness and social expression reaches its fullest point."
From its zenith at the summer solstice and here in Leo, in the middle, the strength and energy of the sun is now becoming concentrated, consolidated, directed and focused. These centripetal forces radiate towards the center and crystalizes the energies that were initiated in Aries. It is in the middle of the season where we find meaning, depth and significance in our experiences.
In the summer, we often spend more time outside, connecting with nature and participating in physical activities like sports. This is when the sun's rays are at their most concentrated and looking to impart their wisdom upon the earth. Our skin absorbs these energies and converts them to Vitamin D. When the sun's photons nourish a plant, the process of photosynthesis takes place, converting them to energy which nourishes the plant. This energy is seeking expression, a "creative release of its contents.
The seeds that we planted in Aries are bursting forth with new life.
When we boil a pot of water, the water starts with a slow rolling bubble and builds to its zenith in a rolling boil. If we cook it too long, it will evaporate as these concentrated energies expand into expression as vapor. But in the middle, heat becomes concentrated, and we start the timer when the boil begins to roll. This is where the magic happens and the work begins, now we're cooking!
Psychologically, this radiant sun energy is passionate, determined, resilient and productive. This stable, sustaining power is ideal for sustainment, maintenance and process work.

Fixed signs occur in the middle of the season, when the energies are concentrated and differentiated before seeking to express themselves later on.
Tomorrow, we will look at the element of Fire and how it applies to the Sun and Leo in the fifth house. In the meantime, consider reflecting on the themes presenting themselves in your life. Particularly, things that presented themselves in April and now seem to be reaching a peak.
Until next time!
